How of the water bang  stopped, its momentum forces up the

piston G, which also acts as a puinp plunger, whose return stroke
is obtained by its own weight.    At the down stroke of c, clear
water is drawn from the tank M through the suction val¥e nt
at the up stroke this water is forced through valve K. into the air
chamber L, -where it finally passes through the delivery Ymlwe j to
the higher level required    The supply pipe A is provided wkii a
back-pressure valve r, which closes at the same time as c, so
the whole energy of the water is utilised, and not partly spent in
forcing some of the fluid hack into the tank K.    The force of ,tibe
water in A having been spent, valve B falls back on its seat, and G
